home page mothers health professionals Information Qualifications site map	Hari Doman - Qualifications & Experience I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant Community Specialist Practitioner (Health Visiting) Registered Nurse 8 years experience as a qualified NCT Breastfeeding Counsellor PhD Studying breastfeeding among teenage parents Experienced breastfeeding mother Professional Indemnity provided by Towergate Early in my nursing career I noticed that the majority of babies and children I encountered in hospital were bottle fed. Subsequently, I learnt that breastfeeding decreased hospital admissions. In 1995 I gained a BSc (Hons) as a Community Specialist Practitioner in Public Health (Health Visiting) and continue in this role. During my own pregnancy I received support from NCT and wanted to give support to other mothers and families. Subsequently, I spent 3 years training as a Breastfeeding counsellor and have been registered as an NCT Breastfeeding Counsellor for 8 years. I set up and ran a successful breastfeeding drop-in for 3 years. In 2002, I trained staff in Durrington Health Centre and, this year, staff in a Children's Centre at Littlehampton Surestart. Both received the award of Certificate of Commitment from UNICEF. For the past 3 years I have organised peer counsellor training where 30 mothers have been 'skilled-up' to support other breastfeeding mothers. In Littlehampton peer supporters run their own support group called MILK and the scheme is being rolled out to neighbouring areas. I have successfully set up a tongue-tie division service and during the past year I have performed the procedure for over 20 babies who could not breastfeed due to their tongue-tie. return to top of page
